April 24th, 2026
Hi everyone,
We know Production is on everyone’s mind. It’s been an eventful month as we recognize having built and shipped our first 1,000 mass production units and are well on our way with MP2 and MP3 lined up. We’ve made meaningful improvements in Software and in our processes. And we continue to learn and improve the processes that will allow us to build and deliver units faster.
Where are we today?
MP1: 1000 of 1000 units completed
MP2: 550 of 1000 completed vs. a target of 500 completed by March 31. Behind target of 1000 completed by mid-April. Completion date estimated mid-May (see below for details).
MP3: Components for 1000 machines were ordered in March, expected delivery mid-May.
Manufacturing Line capable of 1,000 units per month - Yes
We set a goal of achieving a production throughput of 1,000 units per month and many people have understandably held us to that standard since we started production and were disappointed when production fell short. We knew it would take time to get there as it requires creating and improving processes, identifying and resolving a series of issues and bottlenecks, and creating reporting, tracking and quality control systems that allow us to build without risking issues.
We’re happy to share that as of this batch we are confident the line can build 200-250 machines a week - assuming all parts are on hand.
Supply Chain - Solving the ‘last’ puzzle piece
What caused the delay? If a single component from a supplier is delayed, or does not meet our quality standards, the entire line stops if we do not have backup component inventory. We feel confident in our supplier ecosystem aside from consistent, high quality, powder coated parts - the coated metal that makes up the body of the machine.
In the case of MP2, production was delayed due to 2 powder coated parts having a high cosmetic defect rate. We won’t ship machines that don’t meet our standards. In this case, parts that had delivered historically at a 90% acceptance rate and fell significantly short to 30% this time.
Our engineers and CM are working overtime to solve the issues:
- Moving our Quality Control department into our powder coating supplier’s facility. Our requirements are very strict and we’ve trained people and developed methods for finding imperfections on our production line. By moving our own people into the factory we ensure that no part that doesn’t match our quality even leaves the supplier and issues can be found and fixed before they hit a finished component. This will cut the iteration cycle dramatically.
- Instead of relying on high level reports from our manufacturer, we implemented first-hand granular tracking in all stages of production to provide close to real-time information. This will shorten the time it takes for us to identify and engage on issues.
- For MP3: Increased order to 1,500 components to maximize the likelihood of 1,000 that meet our standards.
Our best current estimate is to have MP2 completed by May 10. We are expecting twice-weekly deliveries of the remaining components starting next week, but we won’t know how many meet our criteria until we review them.
Once we solve this issue and have sufficient high quality parts on hand, we hope to be able to move to more consistent builds and shipments on the order of 200-250 per week - and importantly - build a component inventory of these parts to smooth any future surprises should they arise.
Shipping Issues
- Middle East: Due to the war, there was a newly introduced issue shipping machines from China with Lithium-Ion batteries. The Meticulous uses a single lithium battery and as such shipments were delayed. We started a dedicated batch of machines that we will ship without the battery for those markets. There is no downside if the machine is connected to WiFi as the clock is ‘set’ via the internet, and this is the only purpose the battery plays.
- Denmark: We have paused shipments to Denmark while we work through some requests from Danish customs related to the instruction manual.
- Spain: Spain requires special permissions for espresso machines over EUR 300. We are working with FedEx to implement a process to meet their requirements and hope to restart shipments soon.
Memory - Secured System-On-Modele for units 3,000 to 6,000
The AI boom has led to computer memory supply being locked up and prices increasing multiple times. Supply at any price is not guaranteed. We had computer chips for the first 3,000 machines. By the time we placed the Purchase Order for machines 3,000 to 6,000 the market was in a very different position. By working closely with our vendor, we were able to secure delivery of 1,000 units by May 31 and the remaining 2,000 by June 31 - meaning no impact to production. Prices were meaningfully higher, but we were unwilling to stop or delay production. Below is an chart of the price of memory over the last 12 months (not the exact our SOM uses). Please think of the impact on robotic espresso machines the next time you query your favorite AI :)
White Machines - Paused by above powder coating issues
A White machine is identical production to a Black machine aside from changing the above discussed powder coating process to White. Once we have solved the production process for Black, we will begin testing White.
Milk
We are behind on our plan to re-start working on Milk, but we cleared all of the small projects we wanted to clear before starting. Accessories and the new packaging are on track and we should have expanded bandwidth soon. The problems we saw in MP2 consumed all of our focus and energy, but Milk is next in line for us to tackle!
Software
With almost 1,500 machines making coffee every day, users proposing new cool features and encountering edge cases that we’ve never seen before, our software pipeline needed some streamlining. Right now, reporting bugs is still too difficult. We don’t have a great way to track and prioritize bug fixing and new features. We are working to fix that.
- Currently we don’t have a great channel for reporting and discussing bugs. Our discord was born as an unofficial channel and is moderated by volunteers, it was never meant to be an official support channel, but right now is the best we have. Temporarily we created a few dedicated channels on Discord to make talking about our software easier. Please bear in mind that the mods are not affiliated with the company and are dedicating their time generously just to help us out.
- Soon we will be launching a dedicated official place to handle bug reports, feature requests and all things software. We are still deciding on the best way to do it, so stay tuned!
- We are trying to get into a cadence of weekly releases with clear change log announcements. You can see the changelogs in the #announcements channel on Discord for now.
- We are making it way easier for users to share machine log data and bug reports.

CRM - Not ready yet
The CRM is a custom software system and is in the testing phase. Because we are prioritizing improvements to the core software experience it is taking us longer to get it published. The issue that requires time and attention is ensuring that the underlying data is fully up-to-date - address change requests, machine color requests, pledge entitlements, shipments that have been made an in-transit, etc. There is more complexity than one would expect with multiple email addresses, “Apple Private Relay”, cancellations / refunds and re-ordering, combining orders, and so on. The purpose of the CRM is to provide Backers with accurate information and reduce the number of emails that could be answered via the system. If we publish the CRM without all the data fully up to date, it would understandably create more emails. We are still committed to it.
Responding to Emails
We try to read every email and do our best to prioritize, and address those we can with the time available. While we feel like we’re responding timely to as many emails as we can, this is still not solved yet because many emails relate to things we should have better systems for. If you wrote in regarding an Address Change, we have (or will) act on those. If you have asked about timing of your machine delivery, we may not have because for some, the timeline is uncertain given the above. We are investing time into the CRM to address Batch allocation, which is the best we can do at this point - a good rule of thumb is to assume 800-1000 machines per batch (given yields) and that we are largely going in Backer order, with Kickstarter followed by Indiegogo. If you are from a country with fewer Backers, we may only get to you in MP2 or MP3 despite an early Backer number.
We’re still a small operations team, and everyone is working hard on fulfilment, customs, onboarding and handling questions for those of you getting up to speed on your machine.
We’re excited to deliver all of your machines!
